Interview The Inhouse Experience

On April 3rd, the 2025 edition of The Inhouse Experience will kick off. Here, a variety of companies in Amsterdam will host students to give them a glimpse of and experience first-hand relevant work being done in their field of study. To inspire you to take part this year, we take a glance at 2024, and chat with the chairman of The Inhouse Experience (TIE) committee, Annie Tziakouri.
Could you tell me about the idea/concept of The Inhouse Experience?
“The general idea behind The Inhouse Experience is that students will have the opportunity to get to know the companies that we visit. They get a chance to look at one of their departments with more depth and they are able to understand their possible career opportunities. They experience what it would be like to work at the company we are visiting. It is also a great opportunity to network with people from the industry including recruiters. I think it's really important and valuable for students to do that to get to know the competitive landscape of the industry that they will later pursue. “
What companies did you visit?
“This year we had the chance to visit PwC and Deloitte.”
How many students did attend? And were they mainly from a certain year?
“All students were invited to apply to get a spot for The Inhouse Experience. Then it's up to the company to decide who can join. We had approximately 25 students for both visits. They were mostly third-year and masters students. “
For whom do you think attending The Inhouse Experience would be a good idea? (For example students looking for an internship, who don’t know what masters they want to do etc)
“The Inhouse Experience is one of the most exciting events to join because you get the chance to see the companies as an employee would. You are then able to understand the day-to-day operations that they do. It's also a good event to visit because it is possible to speak with the company’s recruiters about any opportunities regarding internships, part-time work or even full-time roles. They will also tell you about the application procedure and what they are looking for specifically in a candidate, which is really really important. It's also nice because you get to speak with professionals who mostly did the same study as we are doing right now, Econometrics and Data Science or Business Analytics. You get to know more about the masters they chose and what career paths they took to get where they are. So it's really interesting to see what is required from you and what the company prefers for some roles. “
What was organizing TIE like? What difficulties did you encounter?
“Organizing The Inhouse Experience was a really nice process. We got the chance to speak with a lot of recruiters and get to know what they would want from this event but it was definitely not an easy task.”
More information of this year’s edition of TIE, i.e. participating companies and their respective registration deadlines, you can find here, There are still places available and events will run through until May. We hope to see many of you taking advantage of this opportunity to explore your interests and put your analytical skills to good use!
